DESCRIPTION
A beautifully made silver lizard brooch set with graded pink sapphires for eyes. Two more sapphires are set along its back centred with a single green emerald stone. The modelling of the Lizard is exceptional with design cues to the tail, head and claws. The body has finished with a textured effect that give this a lifelike skin appearance. Circa. 1930’s.
Lizard Jeweller
Lizards of all kinds have a long history representing good luck. In Ancient Greece and Rome lizards also symbolised wisdom and good fortune. They became popular again in places such as Austria, in the 1930-1940 period, when this type of novelty brooch was very popular.
